On the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce's 2026 calendar, the first Saturday of December is now "Kernersville's Hometown Christmas," and the listing says it was "previously known as Blooms to Bells." The old name was a description of the route. In 2025 the Chamber billed the trolley as running "from Blooms (Gardens) to Bells (Depot)," with Santa, handbells, cookies and hot chocolate at The Depot as the final stop. For Saturday, December 5, 2026, the last drop-off is Founders Park on North Main Street.
What the night costs has changed too. Last year the Chamber told people to bring money for the garden lights and for ice skating at the museum. This year the garden is free that night and the museum stop has vendors. That makes the evening's main paid experience a ticket you buy ahead of time from Körner's Folly, and it's worth planning the rest of the weekend around that ticket.
What the 2025 listing promised, and what the 2026 one does
The hours are the same. Both years run 4 to 8 p.m. downtown, based at 136 East Mountain Street, with free trolley rides sponsored by Parks GMC. Nearly everything else on the Chamber's two listings has moved.
| Blooms to Bells, Dec. 6, 2025 | Hometown Christmas, Dec. 5, 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| First trolley stop | Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden | John and Bobbie Wolfe Visitors Center |
| Last trolley stop | The Depot | Founders Park at North Main |
| Garden lights | Bring money for tickets | Free for everyone that night |
| Kernersville Museum | Ice skating, bring money to skate | Vendor campus hosted by Favored Events, open at 3 p.m. |
| Tree lighting at Town Hall | 6 to 7 p.m. | 7 to 8 p.m. |
| Headliners at the last stop | Santa, handbells, cookies, hot chocolate | Live Nativity, Santa's Workshop |
The 2026 listing doesn't mention skating, and it doesn't say skating has been discontinued either. Under the new plan the museum campus is a shopping stop with vendors and food trucks.
The 2026 loop, in trolley order
The Chamber says you can get on and off at every stop, and a full round trip takes about 18 minutes. In listing order:
- John and Bobbie Wolfe Visitors Center. Goodies, an introduction to Kernersville history, and the place to buy Körner's Folly tour tickets.
- Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden. Spectacular Blooms light displays, listed from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and free on December 5.
- Kernersville Museum. Museum tours plus the Favored Events vendor campus and food trucks. Vendors open at 3 p.m., an hour before the trolley starts.
- Kernersville Chamber of Commerce. Up Mountain Street, past the lighted Christmas tree put up by the Town of Kernersville.
- Founders Park at Main and Mountain. The Live Nativity Scene and Santa's Workshop.
A few details change how the evening goes. The nativity, sponsored by Welden Village and Parks Company, uses live actors and animals and runs on the half hour from 4 to 8 p.m., so you can see it whenever the trolley drops you off. Leadership Kernersville will wrap gifts for free at First Citizens Bank. Author Nancy Naigle is on the bill, and participating stores are running holiday specials. Kettle corn, cookies and hot chocolate are sold along the route.
The tree lighting itself is listed for 7 to 8 p.m. at Town Hall, with performances by Kernersville choirs and musicians, plus hot cocoa and donuts. Kernersville Parks and Recreation sponsors it. In 2025 it ran from 6 to 7 p.m. The later start means the lighting now falls in the last hour of the 4-to-8 window. If you start at the Visitors Center at 4, you have about three hours of trolley stops before you need to be at Town Hall.
Free lights at the garden, a paid ticket at the Folly
With the garden free on December 5 and the museum switched to shopping, almost none of the trolley loop needs a ticket. The paid part of the evening is at Körner's Folly, and the first trolley stop at the Visitors Center sells tickets for it.
Körner's Folly holds Christmas by Candlelight on December 5, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., with last entry at 9. The museum recommends buying tickets in advance. The Chamber's listing gives the house tour as 5 to 9 p.m. Go by the times on the Körner's Folly event page, since the house runs it. The Chamber says the same thing about tickets, "Buy tickets early," and adds warm cider at the Visitors Center.
There is a second date. Körner's Folly holds another Christmas by Candlelight on Saturday, December 19, also 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. with last entry at 9, presented by McDaniel & Company and Piedmont Endodontics. If a 4-to-8 trolley loop, a 7 p.m. tree lighting and a candlelight tour feel like too much for one night, the December 19 date lets you see the house on a different night from the trolley and the tree lighting.
Daytime visits are covered by Victorian Christmas at Körner's Folly, which runs from Tuesday, November 24, 2026, through Saturday, January 2, 2027. This year's theme is "Bejeweled Christmas." Tickets are sold online or at the Visitors Center, 401 South Main Street. According to the museum's ticket page, self-guided admission is $14 plus tax for adults and $7 plus tax for ages 6 to 18, and children 5 and under get in free. The hours on the Victorian Christmas page don't match the ones on the general ticket page, so check the seasonal page before you go.
The garden has its own season beyond the free night. The Chamber confirms only December 5 as free, so look up other evenings, hours and admission on the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden's Spectacular Holiday Blooms page before you plan a second visit.
The rest of the season happens on the same few downtown blocks
Thanksgiving weekend starts things at the garden. Purple Wagon Events' Merry Maker Market opens at the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, 215 South Main Street, on Friday, November 27 at 10 a.m. and runs through Saturday, November 28 at 4 p.m. General admission is listed at $0. Victorian Christmas opens at Körner's Folly that same week, on Tuesday.
The day after Hometown Christmas, the Kernersville Christmas Parade runs Sunday, December 6, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Unlike Saturday night, the parade hasn't changed. It starts at Pineview Drive and Highway 66, follows East Mountain Street to West Mountain Street, and ends at Kernersville Elementary School. That is the same route as the 2025 parade, which ran on Sunday, December 7 at the same time. If you watched last year, the spot you watched from will still work.
Here's the season in order:
- Nov. 24 through Jan. 2: Victorian Christmas, "Bejeweled Christmas," at Körner's Folly. Ticketed.
- Nov. 27 and 28: Merry Maker Market at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden. Free general admission.
- Sat., Dec. 5, 4 to 8 p.m.: Kernersville's Hometown Christmas, with the trolley loop, Live Nativity, Santa's Workshop and free garden lights from 5:30 to 8:30.
- Sat., Dec. 5, 7 to 8 p.m.: Tree lighting at Town Hall.
- Sat., Dec. 5, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.: Christmas by Candlelight at Körner's Folly. Buy tickets in advance.
- Sun., Dec. 6, 2:30 p.m.: Christmas parade from Pineview Drive and Highway 66.
- Sat., Dec. 19, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.: The second Christmas by Candlelight at Körner's Folly.
For most of December 5 you can just show up. The exception is Körner's Folly. If you want the candlelit house that night, buy that ticket before anything else, then plan the trolley stops around your tour time.
